vgetty not answering after cancelled fax

To all,
After giving up on vgetty and my el-cheapo Rockwell modem, I started again
with a brand new Acer modem which uses the TI chipset.
I've got all of the voice and fax reception going, and I've got scripts
that will grab the received data and encode them into MIME encoded email
attachments. BTW: if anyone is interested in these scripts, just email me. I
couldn't find scripts to do this in the vgetty distribution.
The only problem is that vgetty will sometimes get into a state where it
refuses to answer the modem. This usually occurs after the modem has
incorrectly identified a distinctive ring and answered a voice call as a fax
call. A log file can be found at http://www.southeren.com/vgetty.txt. This
log file shows a correctly received fax call, then an aborted fax call.
After that, nothing happens when I call the modem. No log messages, nothing.
This is the only thing stopping me from using vgetty for real.
Any ideas?
