Does button work with 1.20 and ZyXEL 2864

I'm currently running mgetty 1.1.20/Vgetty with the 31051999 patch.
I can not seem to get button to work.  I've set button_program to 
button.sh.  Whenever I press the button, the modem goes off-hook.
Pressing the button again, the modem goes onhook and vgetty resets.

I did notice that the only way that I got the log file to show that
button_program was set to button.sh was if I set it in
voice/include/default.h then compiled.  If I set it in voice.conf
before or after compiling, then the log file showed "" for
button_program.  

Whether I set button or not, everything else worked fine for me.  Any help
would be appreciated.  Thanks.
