I have no idea why this was changed, so I can't "just change it back"
(most likely it will break everything).

If in voice mode, the button sends something like <DLE><b> or so, and you
can act upon it, to initiate message playback, etc. - this was how it was
in "very old versions" (Klaus/Marc I handover).  Now the modem is in data
mode, and a button press makes it pick up the phone and whistle - no way
to use it for our purposes anymore.

I think Marc I changed this because some modems do not send "RING"
messages when in voice mode (but <DLE><r>) but I'm not sure about that.
<DLE><r> should work fine, now, however, after the ring.c rewrite.
