PLAY and RECORD at the same time

I don't think vgetty can do this, but is there any way of getting a
typical voice modem to speak and listen at the same time?

I know that the modem listens for DTMF while playing a file, so it is
possible in that sense, but I would like to transmit speech while
receiving speech. (I'm expecting to have to deal with an echo, of
course.)

This would enable interactive speech recognition with "talkover" ...
