pcmcia modem: ttySx (x changes!)

This is astonishingly, actually. My pcmcia modems always end up as ttyS1
(ttyS0 is on-board), regardless of how often I reboot or whether I put
them in slot 0 or slot 1. Only if I use two pcmcia modems at the same
time, they go to ttyS1 and ttyS2 (understandably).
So I'd ask the pcmcia folks what is going on, as this really shouldn't
happen...

There really isn't anything pretty you can do about it - you have to query
the port to find out whether it's there, and that will give error messages
if not.
So the right way is "find out why the ttySx port moves".
