Mgetty will tell you if queried with "-V":

$ mgetty -V

mgetty+sendfax by Gert Doering
experimental test release 1.1.21-Feb28

log file written to '/var/log/mgetty.<ttyX>'
config file read from '/usr/local/etc/mgetty+sendfax/mgetty.config'

Hmmm, I agree, this is a valid point.  Though it is rarely needed, it can
be handy.
