Recommendation for PCMCIA-Modem?

That's what I thought all the time. I recently upgraded to
mgetty1.1.20-Jan17.tar.gz, which comes with the files class1.c,
class1.h and class1lib.c.

I was really surprized to find those files in mgetty+sendfax, which
was known to support *no* class1 modems. And therefore my question.
