inittab respawing too fast and disabled

Helo Sir,
    From the log file I understood that the mgetty is trying to talk to
modem and failing, as the modem was not connected, and then getting killed
and respawn. Now I connected the modem, and have not observed respawning
for an hour, so I hope it is working fine.
