mgetty does not report the correct utmp entry after ppp upgrade???

Well I found the FAQ (which is not listed in any of the mgetty docs) about
10 min. after posting.  Interesting thing, it's pppd's fault and pppd
needs a patch to work with mgetty, but no patch is around or available????
