The spam-protection sequesters your first posting (it gets mailed to
me).  Subsequent postings are automatically accepted.  This works
quite well because spammers always change their envelope sender.  If
they didn't, they'd get filtered out.  From time to time, they send
their message twice, and the spam gets through.

I believe this is a reasonable compromise between no filtering at all
(ugh), restricting posting to subscribers (which has its own set of
headaches), and full moderation (which slows down list interactivity).
