Interesting indeed. Hints at something wrong elsewhere - like an IRQ
conflict or something like this.
What happens if you run mgetty from the command line (it will not work,
but it will start up and talk to the modem, so it might trigger the same
problem)?
What happens if you talk to the serial port using "cu", like in
"cu -l ttyC0 -s 115200"?
