Newbie question

Hi all,
Sorry if this question has been asked, but I've read the FAQ and most of the
doco & I can't find anything on this..

Using Redhat Linux 5.2, with Netcomm Series 5 V.34 33600 SuperSecure Rack
Modem

I've got the baud speed(s) set to 19200 with flow control set to soft.

In syslog ( messages ) I'm getting

 Id "S0" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

I'm also getting 

error waiting for XON! when I run sendfax

Any help would be really welcome..
