Stable vgetty version?

Hello,

after a severe systemcrash I'm actually reinstalling my system. 
As I want to upgrade from mgetty-0.28 to a newer version, I 
ftp'ed recent versions from ftp.leo.org. Unfortualtly, I'm expiriencing
several errors during compilation and installation of vgetty with the
recent versions of mgetty-0.99.

The question is, which version of mgetty provided a flawless 
compilation and installation for linux?
