some actually do have additional hardware for A/B adapters etc as well as
other functions that need some intelligence & power.

if you need ISDN only (without POTS) you could get a teles card. there are
drivers for these things under linux.

if you need something more useful (e.g. add A/B adapter(s), other functions
like call bumping etc etc, check out ZyXEL. the OMNI TA 128 or OMNI.net are
good ones. if you need more, like voice & fax & V34 as well, there is the
E2864i. see also my ~page for a link to zyxel stuff.
