I used g3topbm to print a fax sent to me by someone who was sending me
a fax they themselves first received. It seems that they have an old
thermal paper fax machine, and did not bother to tear the pages apart,
but just fed it in as one long page. When mgetty received it, it was
received as a single page. The pipeline:
g3topbm <file> | ppmtops | lpr
Caused the 3 page long original that was faxed as a single very long
page to be autoscaled and printed as a single A-size page in very fine
type. I think the ppmtops filter did the auto-scaling, so if you go
straight to lj, you might not get this behaviour.
