56k Voice Modem

i obtained the latest mgetty-1.1.9 and compiled vgetty, but it doesn't
seem to be able to see that my modem is a "voice modem". here are my
logs:

i'm running linux 2.1.57 kernel..
any ideas? i sifted through the docs but couldn't find anything. am i
to take it the 56k voice modem "support" hasn't been coded in?
