Vgetty, USR Sportster 33.6, various problems.

I have been trying to get vgetty up and running with a US Ropbotics
Sportster 33.6 modem attached to a Sun and have had some weird results.
I was wonderring which were the result of the modem being brain dead,
which of me being confused etc.

I have managed to record and playback some sound via the internal
microphone and attached headphones.

Problems are:
	vm beep -s 200 20
		- doesn't do anything but send a quiet click to the
		 headphones.

Nothing I can do seems to make it want to record or play via
	the local handset.

Attempting to translate something recorded with vm useing
the pvftools results in a complaint that the data is not
	GSm data.

Anything I try and translate to .rmd format with the tools
sounds, when played, like a low rumble.

It seems not to notice when the calling phone hangs up and so
sometimes sits there recording endless line noise.

It regularly decides to reset itself, reinitialising the modem
	etc.

The only problem I know about from the logs is that it claims DSR is off
when it shouldn't be and I'm chekcing the cabling. However that doesn't
seem to relate tothe other things.

Please mail me direct with any repsonses as I'm probably not on th elist
yet. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.
