lost characters in /etc/issue

Hello all,

    I have seen this problem mentioned on deja news but have not seen
any solutions (and perhaps none exist). I am using mgetty vs 1.0.0 on a
Pentium 60 running RedHat 5.1 with a Cyclades 8Yo card. I have the
latest Cyclades driver and US Robotics Sportster 33.6 Faxmodems.

    The problem is only half of my /etc/issue file shows up to the
dial-in user. I assume it is some kind of buffer problem on one end or
the other but the modem manual doesn't mention anything. Unfortunately
the /etc/issue file is where I am telling these users how to login to
this new machine so they won't call me!

    Does anyone have any ideas on where I might look to resolve this
problem? By the way, the archive list search engine keeps giving me the
error "The search parameters caused an error in the call to Glimpse"
regardless of my search parameters.
