Auto_PPP and FreeBSD

I have been trying to get mgetty+sendfax configured but am having
problems I think with the auto_ppp. I've read the manual and have looked
at the instructions on a couple of www sites but still can't get things
to work. I've set up ppp for dialout on /dev/ttyd2 and it works well. I
just can't get mgetty+working. What is the proper use of the -DAUTO_PPP
for makeing under FreeBSD? What Makefile lines need to be changed for
auto_ppp to work?
