To add some comment about the "why":  we get so many questions "what kind
of modem shall I use"? -- and since I can only test a hand full of modems,
my answers are necessarily incomplete.  So Simone has built a WWW "modem
survey" interface where all of you should enter comments about *your*
modem, and everybody else can look which modems have received good and bad
marks...

If you have questions about it, don't hesitate to ask on the mailing list.
