This is already very bad.  The modem claims to support class 2.0, but
doesn't actually do that.  Please set "modem-type cls2" in mgetty.config,
as "auto" won't work.

Maybe that will also cure the data problem.

In addition, make sure you have the very latest modem firmware, as this
one is obviously buggy.
