mgetty FATAL

I am trying to dial to mgetty from Windows 95 to establish ppp connection.
Linux console shows up 3 times:

mgetty FATAL: yS0  login: uid field blank,
skipping line

Windows 95 then prompts:

login:

I enter the user id and
password and can do anything like telnetting to
Linux but I just can not
setup the ppp connection between these 2 machine.

Which component is making
the problem? mgetty, ppp, or Windows 95?
