I wasn't able to reproduce this logging problem. But by hand-checking out 
and in with my ISDN line, I can see what's happening:


It is possible to use the character "#" in user passwords checked by the 
normal login process.
It is not possible to use this character in passwords checked by uucp.




Since my old UUPC installation has had no problems with "#" as well, this 
one wasn't that easy to detect.
