I also run an interactive script using perl and it has slow response
too...it seems like the event loop runs slow... i dont remember details
because its been quite some time since i hacked on it, but it seemed to me
at the time to have some pretty annoying performance problem.

i will look at it this week so i can report more details about the
problems.  I am using a sportster VI external modem btw.
