Receiving faxes problem!

Anyone help please!

I seem to have a problem when receiving fax's in that the first page comes
through perfectly, when mgetty tries to negotiate for second page or
terminate after first page it errors out and dies, the connection is still
there physically with the originating fax, eventually the connection dies
and the originator try again, so we only ever get the first page of faxes
and every time we get at least 3 of them because the originator's machines
think there was a problem so they resend.

Any ideas,  I've tried the FAX_SEND_IGNORE_CARRIER but as the name suggests
doesn't work for receiving fax's.... also tried dropping the baud rate to
19200..
