Converting TeX PS to g3

Hi,
I hope it isn't too offtopic, but I've problems converting postscript files
generated via dvips (5.58f)to g3. Ghostscript (4.03) never ends (in fact I
killed the process after 80minutes, it seemed to be to long even for a
486-40 Commserver, no tex installed). But converting of "normal" ps-files 
(example of ghostscript) works. And on my pc (P133, tex installed) there 
is no problem (same version of gs) converting these files. Does the work of
gs depends on an installed version of tetex? Do I need a newer version of
dvips (as mentioned in the faq?)...
