unmotivated hang-ups with vgetty

Impossible to say, because the log level was too low.

I would guess too, that the problem is with the silence detection.
Unfortunately not all modems implement the option to set the
sensitivity, which means, that you can't do anything against it,
except telling the callers in the greeting messaege to speak loudly.
