mgetty and modem error

Hi,

this is the log of mgetty. when calling the modem the log-file always says:
"waiting for ``CONNECT``. But the modem never connect. It starts to check
the speed. But the modem has no partner...
Another problem: why do I get this error and how can I solve this problem?
"cannot set controlling tty (ioctl): Operation not permitted"
