Why all those options? Just remove -x2 here (because it will override
the "debug 4" statement in mgetty.config), and the -D isn't necessary
either.

direct is for *direct* lines, not for modems.

Using 19200 for a modem that can go a lot faster on the wire doesn't sound
very useful to me. Use 38400 or 57600.

Don't edit that file at all before you have understood what you are doing.
For normal dial-in, you don't need to change anything.

In general: DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING in mgetty's configuration unless you're
sure you know what you are doing AND the default doesn't work. Usually
mgetty's defaults are perfectly fine for ordinary dial-in purposes.

No.

Also, dont' mess with "dialin.config" before the basic stuff works. Start
with easy things, and then go to complicated stuff later.

Nothing will work at all. Go back to the default files, and try with
them, setting ONLY one thing: "debug 6". If it doesn't work, look at the
log file, and then change only ONE thing at a time, to fix ONE problem at
a time.

That's just basic stuff. The real documentation is in
http://alpha.greenie.net/mgetty/, and it is much more than just a ReadMe.

This is only relevant if you build from source.
