Ah.  Maybe this is is the solution for all the reported voice problems.
Could all of you who have problems with voice stuff please try this one?

No idea - didn't get any feedback on this.  Please test.

Hmmm, it works, but that's kind of an accident :-) - in "hostile"
environments (non-linux) you would need to set the baud rate to something
well-known, and maybe go to single-character mode to read char-by-char,
not line-by-line.

But it should work fine under normal conditions on linux - nice.
