This is the basic problem with voice/data sharing. Some modems just get
confused when they hear voice messages, and there is not vermy much you
can do about it.

That's not good. The modem really needs to be able to detect this - maybe
try to get a firmware update? Have you played with the silence threshold
settings in voice.conf?
