Mgetty 099Nov04 on AIX and more ....

Hello,
two things for today:

1. I tried mgetty-0.99 (Nov 04 + plus the echo/echoe fix Gert
mailed/posted recently) on AIX 3.2.5. It doesn't compile without
changes, some files only compile with xlc (strict ANSI compiler),
other files only with cc (C Compiler in extended language mode).
If you're interested I can mail you the error messages, I didn't patch
the sources up to now since it compiles with switching compilers...

After that it worked for about one week with our Zyxel 1496 EG+ as
usual with our old mgetty-0.17 (i. e. quite good, we have some trouble
faxing to foreign countries and data connections at high speed, but
they are probably caused by bad internal lines in our university plus
very bad local lines in Duisburg-City (this will change soon)).

Then our Zyxel broke :-( (SQ blinking 4 time on self-test). No, I
don't blame mgetty for this, it happened after carrying the modem to a
different place in quite a mess (man other things were carried to
different places at that time...). At the moment we are working with a
cheap "Trust" modem (probably Rockwell chip set...) until our Zyxel is
repaired. This beast didn't work up to now, we are trying to configure
it properly (there's still hope, we just started).

This leads me to the second point:

2. I added some lines to the mgetty.config file since it it not easy
to find out what to configure there and what you must change in
policy.h. Maybe this should be included in the default config
file. Even better, someone write a sed/awk/perl script that extracts
these things from the source code. The same goes for sendfax.config.

So here are the lines:
