converting g3/pbm to tiff,gif, etc. ?

I am currently writing an email2fax / fax2email gateway, which is
working so far, but I am missing some command line tools to convert
g3files to other image formats. I would especially like to be able to
convert to tiff format with compression (CCITT 3/4), or any other
commonly used formats with good compression ratios.

Btw, what is the right MIME-Type for g3-files ? I currently just use
"image/g3", but I guess that's not right.
