While I agree that ATLAST is quite nice, I'm not really sure how mgetty
or sendfax would benefit from it. Both are quite specialized tools that
fulfill very specific needs, and I don't see much programming effort
needed here.

Wile I agree that the config file is a step towards "becoming programmable",
it is something completely different from an own programming/macro
language, and the latter isn't needed here. Can you convince me of the
opposite?

For vgetty, things are different, because the range of "voice
applications" is a *lot* greater and programming vgetty via shell
scripts is very painful.
