Problem with I-modem

Are there any known problems in mgetty with USR Courier I-modem
which cause the modem not to answer to data calls and claim
to be busy? 

My I-modem is doing this. After giving atz! it answers calls for 
a while but then I'll have to reset it again anyway. I took it 
to service and they changed it but it's still doing the same. 
I expect they're going to tell me next time that Linux/mgetty is 
unsupported and claim mgetty of the problem..

That's why I'm asking if anyone has seen this kind of a
problem with mgetty and I-modem.

My Linux kernel is 2.0.35 and mgetty version 1.1.17.
The problem is about analogous data calls. I don't know
about isdn calls or faxes because no one of my users has isdn
or sends me faxes. I have also another modem (Multitech V.34)
and it works fine all the time.
