Slow modem speed

Hi all,

	I have a Redhat 6.1 Linux box having mgetty dialin, 33.3 KBPS
Multitech Modem in a Pentium II SCSI Server. Two days ago I connected from
another Redhat 6.1 machine (Pentium II) via dailup using Lanbit 33.3 KBPS
modem. The Telephone exchange is EPBAX just 50 meters awaya from server.
The wire is also of good qaulaity. The mgetty was configured to use t
115200 speed.

	The problem is that the FTP speed was below 3 KBPS and I had to
open the box to fix the Ethernet for download of 90 MB of Softwere.
Can any one suject where is the problem
