There are two possible reasons why this is flashing:
- to show that the modem is in "fax/data" mode (previous mgetty versions
did the modem initialization slightly different, especially if vgetty
comes into play, so that *might* cause different behaviour)
- some modems have a light that can be set by software, to show "message
waiting".
I'd try to find out what exactly the meaning of this LED is, and whether
it can be controlled by software - if yes, one can add the appropriate
command to "init-chat" (or "post-init-chat"), if no, bad luck...
