Hi Guys,
I am running a linux ppp sever and trying to use my Windows95 system to
connect to my linux server over telephone lines using 56K (server has a
NewCom 56K modems). I was able connect to linux using uugetty, this
worked fine except it was not automated. Upon modems connection I had to
login manually in a terminal window and press F7 to fire-up ppp.
>From reading the news groups I found mgetty can automate this process, so
I downloaded the latest mgetty (1.1.9-Aug) and recomplied it with
AutoPPP option, and configured the login.config file accordingly. Now
here are the problems that I'm having:
1) I keep getting an error from INIT in the console saying: INIT:S2:
ERROR: respawnd: too fast: disabled for 5 minutes.
2) in syslog file says: Authentications failed for Kevin. Or some error in
that nature. I'm sure the password that I'm providing in W95 is
correct... I use this password to login manually with uugetty. AND on the
Windows95 side a message box says that the server did not authorize and
to check the password.
3) In the mgetty log file, there are entries saying: it could not init
chat or it failed, then it says, forces the init and it gets an OK.
4) In mgetty log file, here is a warning about it could find file
"modem". Is the a modem group that I've to setup? How do I do this?
5) Last, but not least, after I dial in the first time to the linux
server and mgetty picks up then fails and reports all above errors,
however, mgetty will not even pick up any other calls after the first
connect unless I reboot linux.
....Any ideas will be greatly appreciated... or better yet, if anyone has
ever gotten mgetty working on a linux server and Windows95 client running
ppp PLEASE respond, I really could use your help...
Kevin
