switching modem speaker on while vgetty answers call

Hi!
After "mgetty" has been working very reliable for a couple of months I replaced
it with "vgetty" this weekend and played around with it.
I wondered whether it is possible to turn on the modem speaker while a voice
call comes in. Since my "Elsa MicroLink 33.6 TS" is capable of telephony I
added "AT#VLS=6", "AT#SPK=0,1" to "vgetty"'s modem init... and... it *worked*!
Now the modem behaves like an answering machine and I can hear who's on the
line before I pick up the phone or not... :-)
Maybe this is possible with other voice modems...
BTW: I found the hack in mgetty-1.1.9/voice/libvoice/detect.c to distinguish
between "Dr. Neuhaus" and "Rockwell" modems... Well, why not adding a new field
to "modem_type_struct": the "ATIx" command which guaranties a proper detection
of the modem. For newer modems "ATI9" is a candidate since Windoze95 uses this
for plug'n'pray detection (AFAIK) and it seems that modem vendors like those
"produced for `95"-stickers... :-/
With this modification it would also be possible to distinguish between
MicroLink TS and TQV :-) since I am not quite sure whether the latter has the
"AT#VLS=6" command... Can somebody test that?
