This is definitely possible.

I'm not sure, but if it isn't possible now, it should be very easy to add.
You might have to write a small vgetty/vm script to do that.

For mgetty, this is already in place. I don't know the voice code paths
well enough to be sure whether vgetty does as well.

mgetty will log one line for each call, starting with "####", that will
tell you at one glance what happened, and the phone number of the remote,
if known. This line will also go to syslog, and might look like this:
Dec 11 20:21:25 greenie mgetty[16900]: fax dev=tty5d, pid=16900,
caller=898981053, name='', id='Via Fax', +FHNG=000, pages=1, time=00:01:05
