rdevans> that it is one of the only ones that isn't copy writed,
rdevans> the NIV,RSV,NWT, and the ASV are all copy writted.

And herin lies the truth of the matter: the Bible is the best selling
book in the world. In order to cash in on this sales phenomonon,
publishers are looking for something they can copyright, else anyone
could print it and sell it. Some try new notes and references, such a
Thonpson, Scoffield, and Dakes; some try new translations, such as the
NIV, RSV ASV, nKJV, TLB, etc. The motive is the same to the
publisher: have a product that people must purchase from him.

This is not to deny that many translations (and notes too, for that
matter) are in error. Nonetheless, even erroneous notes help us to
understand where others are coming from. Do you want to witness to a
Baptist? Understand where he ius coming from: read Scoffield's notes!
