How old is Earth?

Let this be a lesson on how to <snip> text that was in
a previous post so as not everything that was posted
will be *re-posted* once again.... grrrrrr....co-owner's
pet peeves....grrrrrr.....

I originally scribed:

>> Several years ago there was a well skilled craftsman that'd make
>> highly crafted *antique* look alike furniture. Only the most skilled
>> dealers were able to tell his product from truly old furniture.

Then Bro. Richard spake truly:

>Generally, this was done to defraud a customer into thinking he was
>buying a genuine 1762 oak chest, when in fact he was actually
>purchasing a *fake*.

I also scribed (during my original post):

>> That's how my pastor, Bro Bob Koonce, explains why the scientists
>> say the earth is 6 kazillion years old......

And Bro. Richard responded:

>And the problem with this theory is that this makes God a being who
>would intentionally fool people into thinking the Earth is much older
>than it is. I'm not sure I can accept that.

<snip (many a line was trimmed out here) >

You know.... that doesn't bother me too much. Look at all
of the folks that are claim to read the Bible and profess
themselves to be knowledgeable. Yet because of their professed
*knowledge* they have become fools.

Example: baptism via the titles of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
as seen in Matt 28:19 (I think). All trinitarians *know* this
to be the truth. Yet we know the true meaning of it. Baptism
in Jesus name.

Is God trying to *fool* them? Nope. He just lays the facts
out there and people just *jump* to conclusion...to their error.
But... because they think they know... and have thus settled it
in their minds, they become fools for they are unopen to what
really is the truth. Did God fool them? Nope again! God
doesn't mislead someone from making a good conclusion. I think
people (being carnal in nature and hopefully not heapfully so)
just sometimes want to get to the bottom of it .... prematurely.
And in doing so... their haste makes them make bad decisions.

I think that God can just as well *hide* a scripture from peoples
eyes for it to be later *illuminated* with understanding as it
jumps off of the page as easily as God can hide natural evidence
(of whatever sort) to the professed knowledgeknowers so that they
just go on about their own blunder and assume what they know to
be true.

Whether ther earth is young (in thousands of years) or old (in
the scientists millions or billions of years) to me is irrelevant
to salvation... a fun thing to think about. But nothing to hang
salvation upon. Not a good cornerstone. A subject like this rapidly
approaches becomming a "vain jangling" as described by Bro. James
in his book in the NT.
