CABALA [qabbalah, Hebrew, meaning to receive]

Your (Jerry Moon <moon@netjava.com>) discussion of Qabalah is very
interesting, because it is entirely different from what my research
turned up. The "Qabalah" that I am familiar with, and a Jewish friend
of mine agrees, was (and still is!) a mystical sidetrack of Judaism
blended with Gnosticism. It forms the basis of the religious teaching
of the Freemasons. The divine power of Masonry, The Grand Architect
of the Universe (GAOTU), is viewed as a divine person patterned along
the lines of Hiram, the architect of Solomon's Temple. Much of this
belief system has been form by syncretism with aspects of other
religious systems. It is definately significant that the the monthly
publication of the Masons since at least before WW2 was called "The
New Age".

I can give some excellent URLs to detailed descriptions of the
Qabalistic faith and practices and rituals, but I am at work now and
do now havee direct access to them. If you search the archives of HF,
however, you will find postings in the fall of 95 that show the close
ties between Mormonism and Masonry. A message that is available
linked from my home page (http://eli.wariat.org/~rj) titled "The
number of a man" shows the ties between Masonry and Qabalism.

You could probably also search with one of the web search engines for
Qabalah or Cabalah, or Cabalism, and find a bunch of stuff.
