Bro. Dave responds:

>>Sister Kathy:

>>There are other groups out there that have the same exact dress code

If these women, who are not living in the truth, can uphold standards of
modest dress, no make-up, no jewelry, etc...How much more should we as
Apostolics uphold these standards??

>>I really believe that in order to project a witness to the lost is to

"ho=
>>ly"
>>but have bad attitudes. This is not holiness.=20

I agree that one cannot live by dress code alone, but our outward
appearance IS part of our witness. I cannot begin to tell you how many
times that I've been asked if I was an Apostolic. This usually leads
into a situation that enables me to witness to this person, where I,
being on the shy side, might not have done so of my own accord.

>>You see, man looks on the outward appearance (this is not the true
witnes=
>>s
>>although appropriate dress is important) but God looks at the heart,
and
>>that is what the world is looking at.

How can the world look at our hearts??

>> It's the livi=
>>ng
>>Jesus inside of us that the world needs.

Again, I say...How will the world know we have Jesus on the inside, If on
the outside we look just like the world?

By the way, I'm not saying that I expect a new convert to automatically
give these things up. The bible likens new converts to "babes in
Christ", if I remember correctly. Having a new baby myself, it is easy
to see that he would have little understanding if I told him "Riley, now
that you have been born, you need to take care of yourself, I will no
longer guide you or nourish you." In today's world, I would be charged
with neglect(and rightfully so!), and my child would be taken away from
me. What a difference we would see in our churches if this law applied
to "babes in Christ"!!! While one cannot force standards of holiness
down a new converts throat, we, as elders in Christ, need to be seen as
examples.( I use the word elder only to imply being around in this thing
longer than the said new convert)=)

Finally, in closing,it is my humble woman's opinion that a "little bit of
make-up" is just the beginning of one's compromise. Will the next step
be cutting off just a "little bit" of hair, watching just a "little bit"
of T.V., drinking just a "little bit" of alcohol, etc., etc., etc...
