Well, in the new testament, the adulterer is not put to death and the
innocent party is not a widow(er).

If Jesus meant "adultery" in Matt. 5:32 it would have said
"adultery". He's referring to Deut. 22:13,14

De 22:13 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,
14 And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil
name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I
 found her not a maid:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This is what Jesus meant when he said "except for the cause of
fornication". Of course, it has to be true and not somebody making
it up just to get out of the marriage. This is the only thing Jesus
can be talking about, because the bible says that if a man puts his
wife away and takes another wife he's an adulterer...period.

Look, I hope I'm wrong on this, but I will not take the
chance. Just because one spouse breaks his/her marriage vows doesn't
give the other the right to do the same.
