When I first "got into" Pentecost, one of the things that really really
impressed me was the Preacher's Kids! Jonathan and Andrew Elms were
the teenage sons of the pastor of Life Tabernacle in Wichita Falls,
where I was eventually baptized. They weren't the rebellious hateful
PK's that I had known before, but were kids who loved and served the
Lord. Not only that, but these guys were actually kinda neat to be
around and were independently intelligent, not mindless automatons or
carbon copies of their parents. And the *really* cool part is that
these guys actually got along with their parents! I had never seen
anything like that before.
After Wichita Falls, I moved to Euless TX where Bro J.C. Benson was my
pastor. His two daughters (one teenage at the time, other married)
also loved God and loved their parents. Wow!
And then, I move here to Yankeeland (Illinois), and guess what? Pastor
Roger's two daughters (one teenager, the other at Bible school then) are
also serving the Lord *and* love their parents. What a testimony!
I've been around enough to realize not *every* UPC pastor has this kind
of testimony (hey, even God had his problems and heartache with his
rebellious "children" Adam and Eve). But it does give me incredible
examples as a parent to my own son, and hope as well!
