Bro. Foster, I agree with you whole-heartedly...it is the Word and not the
translation. When I study I use at least 3 different translations. The KJV,
a German Eberfelder (Lutheran) bible and a literal translation of the NT out
of Greek into German. (The grammer is aweful, but the translation is good).
Some of those that read this post to whom the KJV is the only valid
translation are probably gonna take a shot-gun now and come after me,
because I have found verses in different bible versions that are NOT found
in the King James version. Even David Bernard, I think in his book "The
infaulible Word of God" admits that certain verses were added to the KJV,
for instance I John 5:7. (If you would like, I give you a list of verses
that were added, I don't have it with me, right now), they are not many, 3
or so, but there are some....maybe they were added to emphasize the
point....I know about I John 5:7  that a guy called Erasmus in the 1500's
was forced by the Roman Catholics to insert this in his, I guess, earlier
translation. (I look up the whole story, it is out of the above mentioned
book by Bro. Bernard and let you know about it). Anyway, the point I'm
trying to make is unless you go directly into the original manuscript and I
mean the original, not one of the many manuscripts floating around claiming
to be original...you can never be completely sure if or how close the
translation is to the original. A lot gets lost in translations, simply
because some people understand the gist or the meaning of it different than
others. If you give the same text to 2 different people you will receive 2
different translations. Personally, I like the KJV better than my German
bible too, basically, because it is the closest to the original....but the
KJV is NOT the only valid translation and everything else is just trash that
needs to be junked. I had a discussion with someone about that once, who
would not accept any other translation, but the KJV....my question to him
was....if the KJV is the only version that is the "official" Word of God,
what about those that do not understand English? They would be in a heap of
trouble, cause they could not read the bible and thus would have to rely on
the things people tell them....hmmm, didn't we have that not to long ago? If
I remember correctly up until Luther translated it into German wasn't the
bible written in Latin and the people had to rely on what the priests told
them....and look where that led to. :) God bless you. Doris
