In my humble opinion, to get the best idea of what the tree truly looks
like, we should
examine it from as many sides as we can. In other words, we should read
more than
one source on the things we study. Though this is probably a great book and
is
"recognized by theologians and historians as authoritative.", it is not
nearly the only
book and I've seen some books "recognized" in the same way that had not the
truth
of God in them. There are many books and perspectives to be read and looked
at
on the topic of "church history" and to get a definitive view we should
read and look at
as many as are available. Encyclopedias are often very good reference
because
they tend to state historical fact with little or no bias on the subjects
they cover. This
does not, however, take away from Phillip Schaff's knowledge or his book or
anyone
else's, just that we should look at church history and any other subject
from as many
angles as we can.
