The trinity (a theology developed in the third and fourth century) is
not under consideration in John's writing (first century).  


Actually Bro.,

Historical writings of the "trinitarian church fathers" point to the 
doctrine of the trinity already being taught in the 2nd century sometime
and may have even been being taught in the 1st century...take into
account that the epistles of the apostles(read that part again, sounds
cool, huh :-)) point out that there were many already distorting the
truth while they were yet alive...Paul handed over Hymeneaus and 
his partner over to Satan and spoke of false teachers that were already
there, as did Peter. John speaks of those who were with us but not of
us and have gone out from among us and are the spirit of antichrist which
was already in the world distorting the truth. The trinity dogma was put 
into writing in the 4th century after being disputed greatly among it's own
adherents and teachers during muvh of the 3rd century, but it can be 
proven that it was being taught even earlier and shown by scripture that
it may have already been being taught when the apostles were yet alive.
This would make sense as that once the apostles were martyred off, and
the remnant of the church driven underground, we see historically, the
trinitarian formula for teaching of the Godhead and baptism begin to expand
until it is put into dogmatic form in the 4th century.
