The Holy Ghost

What is the purpose of the baptism of the Holy Ghost?

The primary purpose is so we are born again or so we can become a part of
the kingdom of God.

John 3:5 "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water
and of spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

Romans 8:9 "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that
the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of
Christ, he is none of his."

Because we know that God is one, we know that the Spirit of Christ is the
Holy Spirit. We must have this Spirit to be His.

The Holy Ghost is also given to us so we can dwell in a place of rest.
Hebrews 4 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. It explains how,
even though we have the Holy Ghost and are born again, that there is a
place of rest that we must strive to enter into.

"For he that is entered into his rest, also hath ceased from his own
works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that
rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." Heb. 4:10,11

This shows that even though we are part of God's church, the bride, that
we must still strive for entering into that rest. He that has entered
into this rest has ceased from his own works.

"For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this
people. To whom he hath said, This is the rest wherewith ye have caused
the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing...." Isaiah 28:11,12 It
says also before and after this "For line must be upon line and precept
upon precept."

We might ask "If this is so, that line must be upon line and precept upon
precept, and if we must strive for that rest, how then can we have
assurance?"

Jesus is the answer. He is the way, the truth and the life. No man comes
to the Father but by Him. He will never leave us or forsake us. We can
trust in Him. We must cease from our own works (in the flesh; because
faith without works is dead) but, in the Spirit we can do mighty works in
the power of the Holy Ghost because we are His church and the sheep of
his pasture. He will rule and reign over our lives and as we submit to
His will, His power overcomes us and we are His.

"...And His banner over me was love." Song of Solomon 2:4
